New York's 50 Best: Places to Discover and Enjoy in Central Park
Published in Paperback by City & Co (May, 1999)
Authors: Karen Putnam, Marianne Cramer, and Central Park Conservany
Average review score:

A great spring/summertime companion
I live just a few blocks from Central Park, but reading through this book, I realize how many things there are that I've never seen or appreciated! It's a great introduction to the history of the park and the things beyond the grass and trees that there are to explore. It joins my Zagat guide in my purse as things I don't leave home without on the weekends.

New York's 60 Best Wonderful Little Hotels
Published in Paperback by City & Co (July, 1999)
Authors: Allen Sperry and John Coburn
Average review score:

If you like small, intimate, boutique hotels ..
.. this book is for you.

This book is not only informative but its presentation is a delight. John Coburn has a deft artistic hand in his wonderful ink sketches. The book gives "insider" information about these hotels; such as how the rooms are decorated, services near the hotels, prices and a little history. I wish Allen Sperry would collaborate with John Coburn again and do the same type book for many popular cities around the world. London would be my next choice! This is a clear winner.

Start spreading the news...
I recently moved to New York, and this book was recommended to me by a friend who is on the curatorial staff at a NYC museum. I assumed that it would be for art-experts only. But, in fact, I've brought it with me each time I've driven throughout this state, and have found the book to be very enjoyable and filled with interesting stories. A real gem!

Niagara Falls, NY
Published in Paperback by Arcadia Tempus Publishing Group, Inc. (01 July, 1996)
Author: Daniel M. Dumych
Average review score:

Niagara Falls -- Volume II
Niagara Falls, New York is an exceptional place - not only blessed with one of the seven wonders of the natural world, but also with a rich and very colorful history dating back to the 1500s when the French explorers first arrived and much, much further where the Native American tribes are concerned. Daniel M. Dumych has brilliantly captured the late Victorian Era when the Falls were exploited for their money-making potential and raw power. He reverently shows how the first power project (Schoellkopf Station) was built and eventually destroyed by the collapse of the wall of the Niagara Gorge; the bustle and entertainment of Falls Street during the first half of the 20th Century; the awe as the current Niagara Power Project was constructed. This is a thoroughly enjoyable book for anyone who has grown up in Niagara Falls as I have, or for anyone who has ever visited the majesty of the cataract. Or for anyone who just loves history.

Everything you never knew about NYC
This is the best book on/about NYC, for Virgos anyway. If you can appreciate a step by step approach to getting to know NYC then this is the book for you. It goes through all the neighborhoods, shows you buildings, historical sites, shopping, trains, restaurants, quirks, whatever! I've lived in the NYC region all my life and discovered things about NYC I never knew existed!

On and Off Broadway: A Theater/Dining/Lodging Guide to New York City
Published in Paperback by Britain Books (March, 1998)
Author: Sharon Watson
Average review score:

The best of the New York dining guides
If you love New York, love the theater and love exploring new restaurants, this guidebook is for you.

Organized by neighborhood, the guide provides listings of restaurants in all price ranges. The author uses a chatty writing style in describing each restaurant. She has a talent for making a place come alive with just a few sentences. Each listing contains examples of items on the menu with prices.

In the introduction, Ms. Watson states the listings are recommendations not reviews. I have come to rely on those recommendations and have never been disapointed.

By far the best of the New York dining guides.
